Smokey & the American Cowboy
The DNCFR, Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and local city and county fire departments will once again host the "Smokey and the American Cowboy" program for area third graders. The event will take place Thursday, April 8th at ISU's Holt Arena.
Cowboys and governmental fire fighting agencies have long worked together to manage and control fires so that our homes and natural resources are protected. The "Smokey and the American Cowboy" program is a conitnuation of this cooperative effort. Its goal is to expose students to fire prevention and safety and introduce the students to fire fighters, rodeo queens, bull fighters, and the cowboy way of life.
There will be seven stations set up on the floor and around the rodeo arena. There will be a 10 minute presentation at each station, including questions and answers and "hands on" activities. Topics at the stations will be bullfighters, rodeo queens, bucking chutes, animal safety, Smokey the Bear, fire engines and fire fighting.
